چکیده
Kinetic cascade beyond magnetohydrodynamics of solar wind turbulence in two-dimensional hybrid simulations Statistical analysis of fluctuations and noise-driven transport in particle-in-cell simulations of plasma turbulence We provide a tutorial on the paradigms and tools of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. The principal paradigm is that of a turbulent cascade from large scales to small, resulting in power law behavior for the frequency power spectrum for magnetic fluctuations E B ðf Þ. We will describe five useful statistical tools for MHD turbulence in the time domain: the temporal autocorrelation function, the frequency power spectrum, the probability distribution function of temporal increments, the temporal structure function, and the permutation entropy. Each of these tools will be illustrated with an example taken from MHD fluctuations in the solar wind. A single dataset from the Wind satellite will be used to illustrate all five temporal statistical tools. V C 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.

متن کاملDensity Fluctuation Spectra in Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence
It is shown that within the framework of nearly incompressible magnetohydrodynamics, but not within that of neutral-fluid hydrodynamics, a k -5/3 inertial-range wave number density fluctuation spectrum is to be expected at the same times that k -5/3 kinetic energy and magnetic energy cascade spectra are present. A previous discrepancy between theory and observation in the local interstellar med...
متن کاملImpact of Hall effect on energy decay in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence
[1] We examine numerically the influence of Hall effect corrections to Ohm’s law upon the decay of homogeneous compressible magnetohydrodynamic turbulence and conclude that there are no significant differences in global decay rate associated with the Hall effect. This affirms expectations that energy decay is controlled by the large-scale eddies.
متن کاملSpectral Cascade and Energy Dissipation in Kinetic Alfvén Wave Turbulence
Spectral cascade and energy dissipation of Alfven turbulence is studied using a massively parallel gyrokinetic particle simulation. The simulation observes a magnetic energy spectrum with a power law index of ”-5/3” in the long wavelength, which agrees with magnetohydrodynamic results in the inertial range. In the dissipation range, the simulation finds a spectral break point on the ion gyrorad...
متن کاملShell Models for Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence
We review the main properties of shell models for magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. After a brief account on shell models with nearest neighbour interactions, the paper focuses on the most recent results concerning dynamical properties and intermittency of a model which is a generalization to MHD of the Gledzer-Yamada-Okhitani (GOY) model for hydrodynamic. Applications to astrophysical prob...
